Our Causes: Trees

The forest is for me a temple—a cathedral of tree canopies & dancing light."

-  Dame Dr. Jane Goodall, English primatologist and anthropologist, b. 1934

Trees play a critical role in the health of our planet, and the acceleration of deforestation represents an existential threat to humanity. Trees are the building blocks of our atmosphere, converting sunlight into energy and carbon dioxide into oxygen. And yet nearly two-thirds of Earth's tropical rainforests have been destroyed or degraded to make room for cattle ranches and soybean farms. This short-sighted focus on profitability over sustainability represents a major threat to humanity.

First Light works with organizations to help educate students on the importance of forests and the role conservation can and must play as we seek to maintain a healthy planet.  This is done through a combination of educational resources, videos, grants, and other initiatives in concert with the First Light group.
