Our Causes: Wildlife
"Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east."
- Gandalf the White, J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Rarely is a threat to Earth (or Middle Earth, as the case may be) as well defined as in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy. And seldom are the heroes as defined as a white wizard on a white horse, blazing into battle with the light of the morning sun. Our world's challenges are a bit more... subdued. And yet there are aspects to our world where we must take a bold stand to protect life as we know it, to defend those without a voice and the means to defend themselves.
The wild animals on our planet need better care from humans, who far too often are ignorant, if not neglectful, stewards of Earth. An anthropogenic 6th wave of mass extinction is currently taking place. Unsustainable uses of land, water, and energy threaten Earth's natural resources while climate change imperils where and how all life will be able to live in the coming decades.
First Light believes storytelling and education are two critical levers for change both locally and globally. First Light Studio's current work shines a spotlight on conservation efforts around the world, from the innovative creation of artificial reefs in the Arabian Gulf to the largest ever transportation of rhinos from Europe to Africa. Similar programming is also offered for classroom and afterschool settings.
As more and more humans live on our planet, wildlife needs greater advocacy and protection. First Light is working hard to accomplish both.
